Face Lift in Atlanta

Atlanta Face lift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is an operation performed to remove sagging skin and deep lines and wrinkles from the face and neck.

What happened to my face?

Aging, gravity, and weight fluctuations all contribute to diminished skin tone and facial contour changes. Common facial changes include excess skin and fat at the neck and jaw line, deep smile lines, and muscle banding within the neck. The earliest apparent change is loss of the cervical mental angle, the angle formed by the neck and lower jaw. As the neck skin becomes lax, it sags and gradually obliterates the youthful sharp angle. This condition generally has three components: a laxity of skin, a laxity of the underlying muscles (particularly the platysma muscles) and an accumulation of fat. Lax neck muscles cause the bands in the front portion of the neck that often are seen in older persons. In the upper portion of the face along the jaw line, excess skin creates jowls. These jowls may be characterized by fat deposits. The folds that run from the nose to the jaw (nasolabial folds) also become more accentuated with age.

To reverse these changes and achieve a long-lasting result, board certified plastic surgeons perform a multi-layer procedure. In addition to elevating and re-draping loose skin, Dr. Okoro also lifts and reshapes the deeper structures that provide far greater and more durable contour improvements. When needed, Dr. Okoro tightens neck muscles and he often adds liposuction to the procedure to remove fat deposits under the chin. Because a face lift is an entirely individualized procedure, the extent of the intervention, including scar length, is adjusted for each patient’s needs and desires. Dr. Okoro often performs face lift surgery in conjunction with other facial procedures to provide complete harmony to a rejuvenated face.

Who can have face lift?

Not long ago, a face lift was considered by many to be reserved for movie stars and celebrities. Today, a face lift, or rhytidectomy, is not just for the rich and famous. It is one of the most well accepted and most frequently performed cosmetic procedures in the United States. Recent studies have shown that looking good has a direct correlation to higher pay. Face lifts are performed Dr Okoro for patients so that they can look younger and feel better. People from every walk of life elect to have a face lift for cosmetic as well as economic reasons.

Am I a good candidate for face lift?

Good candidates have reached a stable weight, do not smoke (or plan to quit), and do not have medical conditions that prohibit safe surgery and normal wound healing. To determine if you are a good candidate for face lift surgery, Dr. Okoro will review your health history and perform an examination during your consultation.

What will happen at consultation?

Dr. Okoro will carefully assess your skin laxity, underlying bone structure, fat deposits, and muscle actions that effect facial expressions. To help understand your goals, we recommend that you bring photographs of yourself from ten to fifteen years ago to the consultation. We will also take preoperative photos during your visit. During the consultation, Dr. Okoro will understand your goals and desires, and he will review available techniques and incision sites.

The face lift procedure

Dr. Okoro performs his minimally invasive face lift procedure in an outpatient setting using local anesthesia and oral medication. He also performs face lift in the hospital using intravenous (IV) sedation or general anesthesia.  The choice of location of the surgery is determined by Dr. Okoro and the patient. He prefers a short scar for his face lift procedures. The scar is hidden around the ear in order to achieve a natural result. The procedure may last 2 – 4 hours depending on the complexity of the procedure.
