Neck Lift Atlanta

Neck lift is an operation to improve the appearance of the neck. In many, but not all, cases, a neck lift surgery is often combined with Face Lift to help improve the appearance of the neck, restoring a stronger and more attractive jaw line and reducing neck sagging. We now offer the new iGuide® minimally invasive neck lift procedure. Skin laxity, muscle banding, and fatty deposits are common problems associated with aging of the neck. These aging effects are exacerbated by excessive sun exposure, smoking, and dramatic weight gain or loss.

Approaches to Neck Lift Surgery

Our approach to neck lift is customized. The type of procedure depends on what you need. One size does not fit all. Neck rejuvenation can be accomplished using any of the following techniques.

Botox injections

The vertical bands that extend from under the chin to the base of the neck are caused by the neck muscle called the platysma. Botox can be injected into the muscle to temporarily reduce the appearance of these bands. This is a simple in office procedure that requires no anesthesia and allows you to get right back to your normal activities.

Neck liposuction for fat removal

Neck Lift Atlanta

Patients with good skin tone who are more concerned with fatty deposits than loose skin may be able to have a liposuction neck lift, in lieu of the full traditional procedure. This procedure is for patients with good skin elasticity. After the procedure, the skin simply conforms to the neck’s new shape without surgical intervention.

During office liposuction, Dr. Stanley Okoro will make a small incision below your chin, and behind each earlobe. Using a small canula, the excess fat will be removed. This procedure is often done alone and may be performed as part of a facelift. Neck liposuction is also combined with iGuide®. If this is the only procedure you’ll need, you should plan to spend approximately an hour undergoing the procedure. There will be no stitches.  You should allow five to ten days for recovery. It’s very important to follow the instructions given to you on properly caring for any stitches and bandages in the days following surgery.

Neck Lift procedure

Patients with a significant amount of loose skin and weak muscles in the neck need a full neck lift procedure. In this procedure, excess skin is removed and the remaining skin is tightened. The procedure will last two to three hours. Of course, if you are having a neck lift in conjunction with liposuction, facelift, forehead lift, or other surgeries, the time will vary accordingly. Your exact procedure will depend on your desired results and your own personal circumstances. In order to undergo a neck lift, you must be in good general health, both physically and mentally.

Dr. Okoro will make a small incision under your chin and possibly in front of and/or behind your ears. These incisions allow access to the platysma (neck muscle) and any fat in the neck. The neck muscles can then be tightened and any excess fat removed. Dr. Okoro may choose to remove the fat with liposuction or by cutting it out. The incisions near the ears also allow for removal of some excess skin.
Once the muscle has been tightened and any excess fat removed, the skin is re-draped over the neck. Any excess skin is removed and the incisions are closed with sutures that will dissolve on their own.

It is possible you may have a drain under the skin on the neck to collect any fluid that would increase your post op swelling and discomfort. If you have a drain it might remain in place only a day or two. You would be instructed on how to care for the drain if it needs to stay in for a longer period of time.  You will leave with a compression bandage that you will have to wear to help reduce post-operative swelling. This is usually worn night and day for at least five to seven days and then only at night for a longer period of time. It’s important to follow instructions to ensure proper recovery.

Dr. Okoro performs neck lift in his office using local anesthesia and oral medication for relaxation. He also performs neck lift under general anesthesia in an outpatient surgical facility or hospital setting. Once the procedure is complete, a small drain and a compression garment are often used to reduce swelling and stabilize the neck. Most patients can return to work one to two weeks after neck lift surgery.

Risks Associated with Neck Lift

Every surgical procedure carries some risk, but neck lift is safe in general. Possible complications include a reaction to the anesthesia, swelling or numbness that last longer than normal, or, rarely, infection or bleeding. Smokers have a greater risk of healing problems than do nonsmokers, which is why we ask our patients to cease smoking for three weeks before and three weeks after surgery.

How much does it cost?

The cost of Neck lift surgery varies based on the extend of surgery needed and the cost of any additional surgery. To make your surgery affordable, we offer patient financing plans, so be sure to ask us.

  • The cost may include the following:
  • Surgeon’s fee
  • Hospital or surgical facility costs
  • Anesthesia fees
  • Medication and lab test

Most health insurance plans will not cover cosmetic Neck Lift surgery or related complications. Please carefully review your health insurance policy.
