Botox Can Help You Achieve Your Cosmetic and Medical Goals

Aging, genetics, and weight fluctuations can cause wrinkles and fine lines on the face and neck. Even when you take great care of yourself and your skin, it may not be enough to eliminate those pesky creases.

If you’re interested in a non-invasive way to treat lines and wrinkles, Botox may be the best option. Rely on Georgia Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery to guide you on the path to your newly radiant look.

What Is Botox?

You’ve likely heard of it, but what is Botox? Botox is a special protein made from botulinum toxin.

While the word “toxin” can cause confusion and apprehension, it is nothing to be alarmed about. This type of toxin can have several benefits when used correctly and in the right doses. Botox is widely used cosmetically but also has several medical uses.

Generally, Botox is used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles throughout the face and neck.

Botox has gained popularity throughout the years for a reason. It is the number 1 treatment and the first and only FDA-approved treatment to temporarily improve the look of wrinkles and lines.

How Does It Work?

Repeated muscle contraction is often the cause of lines and wrinkles. Botox is a paralytic that helps stop muscles from moving as freely as they normally would, thereby reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

Botox is a neurotoxin. When you inject a neurotoxin into the muscles, it targets the nervous system and disrupts the signals needed to stimulate the muscle.

Botox causes temporary muscle paralysis. When injected correctly, you’ll still have movement in your muscles; the Botox will simply limit movement, making for a smoothed-out effect.

The results of Botox treatment are temporary. If you enjoy the results achieved through Botox injections, you can continue getting Botox treatments periodically to maintain your fresh and youthful look.

Areas You Can Treat with Botox

Depending on your needs and desired results, you can treat several areas with Botox.

For cosmetic purposes, you can inject the following areas to even out lines and wrinkles and limit movement:

  • Forehead
  • Frown lines (the lines between the eyebrows)
  • Crow’s feet (the area on the sides of your eyes)
  • Eyebrows
  • Bunny lines (referring to the lines that appear on the sides of the nose)
  • Marionette lines (the area between the sides of the mouth and chin)
  • Neck area

Botox can also be used to treat gummy smiles or smiles that overly expose the gums.

Botox is also particularly beneficial for treating other non-cosmetic issues, including the following:

  • Chronic migraines
  • Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
  • Teeth clenching and grinding
  • Eye twitching
  • Lazy eye

Whatever your need, discuss it with us. We’re happy to answer questions, address concerns, and determine how we can use Botox to help you.

What You Can Expect Before, During, and After Treatment

Going in for a new cosmetic treatment can seem intimidating, but knowing what to expect can ease some of your worries.

Before your treatment, we’ll sit down with you and determine where you could benefit from Botox injections. We’ll walk you through the process before we proceed.

If needed, we can apply topical numbing to the treatment areas. You can relax and wait for the numbing to take effect.

During treatment, we’ll work slowly and precisely to give you the best possible results. We’ll also do our best to make you as comfortable as possible. The treatment does not usually take long, with treatments commonly taking around 15 minutes.

One of the biggest advantages of getting Botox is the positive impact it can have on your appearance with such little downtime. After treatment, you should not lay down or rub the injection sites for four hours after leaving the office. You should also avoid physical activity and bending down for 12-24 hours.

Aside from these minimal restrictions, you can return to normal after getting Botox. Many patients come in for their appointment and return to work immediately!

When Can You Expect to See Results?

If you can still move your muscles immediately after your appointment, that’s normal – the results of Botox are not immediate.

You may begin to see the results of the Botox within 24 hours, but you’ll likely see your results within three to five days.

How Often Do You Need Botox?

The effects of Botox are different for everyone. Generally, Botox lasts three to four months. Depending on how quickly it wears off, you may need treatment sooner, or you may be able to hold off a few weeks.

Once you notice more muscle movement, you can call us to schedule your next treatment.
