Plastic surgery should not be considered weight loss surgery, but rather body contouring. Due to safety issues related to potential fluid shifts related to large volume fat reduction, most surgeons limit their removal to about 4-5 liters at one time. This may be impacted by local guidelines. This amount will often give huge changes in your body shape, but is a negligible amount of weight. The most important thing to do is to meet with your board-certified plastic surgeon and discuss these issues so that you can achieve the best results you can as safely as possible, and enjoy those result for years to come. If weight loss is needed prior to proceeding with liposuction or other surgical procedures, medically-directed or surgical weight loss can be discussed and recommended.
