What Type of Facelift Surgery Is Right for You?

Your face can be one of the first things that reveals your age. Because your face and neck are also areas that are often exposed to sunshine and pollutants, they can also be the first areas to begin to develop skin laxity, wrinkles, and fine lines. Even if you have taken care of your skin by applying sunscreen and making sure your skin is always moisturized, signs of aging can begin to make you look older than you feel.

Our facelift procedures at Georgia Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery are designed to lift sagging skin, correct jowls, lift the corners of the mouth, smooth the neck area, and much more. We offer facelift surgery that is always patient-centered and highly customizable.

What Is a Rhytidectomy?

What is a facelift or Rhytidectomy surgery? It is a procedure that can help remove excess skin and fat, resolve deep wrinkles and lines, lift the mouth and cheeks for a more youthful aspect, and improve skin laxity. As a surgical procedure, it comes with more downtime but it also yields better results than less invasive options. It is a great option if you want to achieve noticeable but also natural-looking results. There are several different facelift surgery options that you can choose from, all of which can be customized to meet your goals.

Your Facelift Surgery Options

A Mini Facelift

A mini facelift is a procedure that just focuses on the lower half of the face. It can address wrinkles, sagging jowls on the jawline, cheeks that are falling and losing elasticity, and laxity in the upper neck area. During the procedure, an incision is made at the front of each ear after which the skin and underlying structures will be lifted before the incision is closed.

Why We Love It

A mini facelift can be a great option because the scar can be much smaller than other types of facelift surgery. Because of the smaller scar, there is also less downtime associated with this type of surgery. It can also achieve very satisfactory results that last for many years.

Disadvantages

Your mini facelift before and after may not be as dramatic as that achieved with a full facelift. Its effects are also limited to the lower face and cannot solve concerns with the upper face or lower neck. However, for the right patient, this may be exactly what is needed to help address all of the concerns.

A Neck Lift

A neck lift surgery focuses on tightening and smoothing the skin of the neck. An incision is made around the ear and into the hairline to maximize the amount of skin that can be pulled and tightened. At our practice, we focus on an aesthetic that looks as smooth and youthful as possible without making you look over-tightened.

Why We Love It

A neck lift can be the perfect choice for individuals who only have concerns about their neck area. This type of surgery can produce very satisfactory results that can make you look much more youthful. You also have the option of a mini neck lift if you want to achieve results in your neck with only one incision under the chin.

Disadvantages

A neck lift only addresses the neck area and will not solve any cosmetic concerns in the facial area.

Full Facelift

A full facelift combines the benefits of a neck lift with those of a mini facelift. This procedure can address skin laxity and sagging in the neck, jawline, cheeks, and more. An incision is commonly made along the hairline of the temples, around the ear, and into the hairline.

Why We Love It

A full facelift can help you achieve all of the results of a mini facelift and a neck lift without the recovery time of a deep plane facelift. During our facelift procedures, we carefully hide the incision so that scarring will be minimal and virtually unnoticeable. This type of surgery will yield the most dramatic results and can last for many years depending on genetics and skincare.

Disadvantages

A full facelift often comes with the longest recovery time because of the longer incision. As with the other procedures, it does not address the upper part of the face such as the forehead.

Choosing the Right Facelift Procedure

During your consultation, we will talk to you and listen to your concerns, and then assess your face and neck areas so that we can recommend the right procedure for your situation. We commonly recommend the least invasive procedure that will be effective in your situation. To determine the right surgery, we will ask questions such as:

  • What are your cosmetic concerns?
  • Are you more concerned about skin laxity in your lower face, your neck, or both?
  • How much downtime can you afford?

Additional Facelift Options

At our practice, Rhytidectomy isn’t the only option that we offer for revitalizing your face and neck. We offer many other services such as Ultherapy, MyEllevate, Zoom Lift, FaceTite, Accutite, and more if you are interested in pursuing a more minimally invasive treatment. During these treatments, only very small incisions or no incisions at all are necessary to achieve skin-tightening results.
