PRP for hair loss also known as Platelet Rich Plasma for hair loss treatments is a procedure that involves using one’s own blood components to promote hair growth. Basically, your blood is drawn and separated into different components including plasma rich in platelets. Many studies show that PRP contains several different growth factors and other cytokines that may stimulate healing tissue, including hair growth.
PRP has been used since the 1970’s. Many published medical journal from around the world confirms the safety and use of PRP therapy in medicine. PRP has been used in many areas of medicine including dentistry, orthopedic surgery, pain management, wound healing, and now in cosmetic surgery.
The use of PRP for hair loss has not been evaluated by the FDA, however, clinical evidence and multiple medical studies and published journals supports PRP for hair loss therapy as a promising treatment to promote hair growth. Given the early stages of scientific studies in PRP for hair restoration, PRP is currently used to supplement and not to replace current FDA approved therapies such as DHT blockers and Minoxidil. PRP is a promising non-surgical option for men and women experiencing hair loss.
How is PRP for Hair Loss Therapy performed?
At our Smart hair center, we provide a comprehensive approach to hair loss by combining the latest treatments for the best possible result. We combine PRP, microneedling, and SmartGraft. During your therapy, our qualified nurses or medical assistant will draw your blood just as drawing blood for lab test. Your blood is place in a sterile tube and spun in our centrifuge system. The centrifuge separates the blood into its components plasma, white blood cells, and red blood cells. The plasma rich of platelet is then collected into a sterile tube for use. A topical anesthesia is applied to the scalp to reduce any discomfort for Microneedling and PRP treatment. The highly concentrated platelet rich plasma is then injected into the scalp and/or placed into the scalp with Microneedling. Our patients can drive home after the procedure.
