There are several reasons to want to improve your nose, whether it’s too long, too short, too bony or if you’re having problems breathing out of it.

At Georgia Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, our rhinoplasty procedure can fix any concerns you have with your nose while also retaining the overall symmetry of your face.

What is a Rhinoplasty?

Depending on the individual, a rhinoplasty can correct a variety of cosmetic nose issues, such as:

  • Reducing the size of the nose
  • Removing a bony hump
  • Redefining the tip of the nose
  • Narrowing the nasal bridge
  • Reducing the flare of the nostrils
  • Fixing the angle between the nose and upper lip

Rhinoplasty can also have medical benefits as well by correcting nasal birth defects, injuries or breathing hindrances such as deviated septum.

The rhinoplasty procedure is performed differently depending on the condition, but all procedures are outpatient and done in the hospital under general anesthesia. The incisions that are made will be hidden within the nose to eliminate visible scarring.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Rhinoplasty?

In general, individuals who are approved for this procedure maintain a stable body weight, do not smoke or plan to quit, and do not have serious medical conditions that could impair surgery or healing. It will be determined during your consultation whether rhinoplasty is the right procedure for you.

During the consultation, your cosmetic goals and expectations will be discussed. Your health history will be evaluated and you will also be examined. The inside and outside of your nose as well as the skin thickness, bone position and cartilage shape will be noted, as well as whether any breathing problems exist. Preoperative photos will also be taken.

What is Recovery Like?

Bandages, nasal splints and packing may be present in and around the nose after surgery in order to minimize swelling and protect the new nasal contours. Initial swelling will subside within the first few weeks, and results will start to become more visible.

Depending on the procedure, it may take several months for the nose to refine to its permanent new shape. The results of a rhinoplasty are designed to be permanent, but can still be affected by the natural aging process.

Prior to surgery, you will be briefed on the healing process and necessary aftercare for your nose. Following these instructions significantly reduces the risk of complications or adverse effects.

If you’re unhappy with the appearance of your nose and are seeking a professional opinion, contact Georgia Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery today to set up a consultation.
